Reflections of an Australian Outback

Hello and welcome back :-) to my corner of the world :)

As many of you all know things on the home front have been all over the place. It has been 5 months now since my Mum passed way and both Dad and I have been floundering in that time.

This past week I have been laid up with the flu and so I have taken this time to start work again on my website :)

I have found a time when I can work on my website each month. :) As of this year I know work part time half a day in the local Art Gallery, my first time there I found it is nice and quiet to work on my laptop as I am only at the gallery to keep on the art work nothing else :)

I also work one day a month in the local craft shop and some times it can be very quiet, all depends on if and when we have tourist through town :) and so I can also spend the time working on my website in that time too. :)

As for new designs this will take a little longer that I had planed and that is because Dad and I are in the middle of building two new sheds :) Yep, you guessed it right :) One is for Me and One is for Him.

It has been decided that I will live with Dad as we have both been having a hard time and together we are sort of handling things. So this has meant I need to get my things out of storage which will save money in the long run. So I will be getting a new 6 x 6 meter shed that will be turned into a sewing room and Dad will get the same size again but it will be for all of those tools used in wood work and such like. :)

So I hope that you will stay a while and have a look around. :) My website first appeared on the World Wide Web back in 1999, when after working on a Virtual Round Robin using Electric Quilt 4 the picture was placed on a the hosting website which has now been moved to the Electric Quilt's web site.

When the picture was placed onto the VRR web page along with my email address all those years ago, I was not able to keep up with the flow of requests for the file on a daily bases, and so I created a one page website to handle the requests for the file. There were over 5,000 hits in the first week of the project file placed online and since those early days, I have designed many quilts.

In the very beginning, there was no name for my website or any structure to it. What you see today is the result of eight (8) years of tweaking to the web pages until I was happy with the way it looked and felt. It was not easy as I did not know the first thing about HTML or even Java Script all of that was learnt after many trial and errors, until what you see here, is what I can say with confidence that I am happy with the look of my web site. :)

In the past 10 years, the internet has grown from its humble use to be an, invaluable outlet for many who would never have dreamed of starting their own small business, but it has done more than that it has brought together so many people together who all share the same passion in life, Quilting.

When I first started, I was going to name my web site after the quilt, but I felt that it did not reflect whom I was. So went with the name that you see now, "Dawsie's World of Treats" it felt right, and I have found over the years, that it pays to stay with that first choice that felt right. :)

Those early days were fun, and I only spent a little time with my website, :) but over the years things have changed so much so, that I now spend more time on designing quilts for my website.

Since leaving, the work force I have found that I turned to my quilting and web site to keep me focused. You could say my life is now my quilting and web site. Over the years, it had started to take more of my time, and, the cost of running my site was getting to the point that I was not able to afford it. Therefore, I came to the decision; to see if could turn my hobby into a viable business. It was either this or shut down my website due to the costs. (It worked thank you)

Taking that huge step in 2007, I have been able to do more than just keep my web site up, running, I have been able to upgrade as they say, to my own Domain name www.dawsie.com and on top off that add new space.

All of this, made possible with your support, not only in the past 12 months, but also since, I first stepped into the world of the Internet.

With many new options open, I am able to offer ePatterns sold through "Lulu Publishing House" for Personal use only. I have now managed to bring back "Tai Chi Dragon" and by next month I should have "Oriental Dreams" back. The printed patterns are for the Quilt Shops, Guilds and Teachers, there are two different bulk buys, 5 pattern packets and 10 pattern packets. I have also added a single pattern packets for those who are not able to download and print off the pattern for them selves.

With the new domain name, it will make finding my website faster now. :) If the worst ever happened like a PC crash and the loss of your links, just type in www.dawsie.com and you will find my web site every time :)

With the new domain name and the new host site, it means I can keep adding to my website and improving it for you, :) this will mean the past designs will be come back and there will be room for new designs to come in the future. :)

It will take time to bring back all the old designs. The PDF files will need updating, and in some cases, there were no PDF files. Those early days I did not have the software to create PDF files; therefore, I will have to created new PDF files for them. :)

All of this would not been possible if it had not been for your support over the past few years so thank you for the bottom of my heart :)

Now that I have, the worst of the bugs ironed out of the web pages, :) I can look at getting the PDF files back up for you. :)

If you would like to, you can leave a message in the guest book or you could even contact me via my contact page. I have had a few problems with some members ISP banning my IP address and as such, this will take time to resolve this issue, this is not something I can fix, but rather the individual will have to sort this out with their ISP and to find out why this has happened.

All contact email address found on my web site have an automated response and it is from this that I have come across the problem of my IP address being banned by some ISP's. As this also gives me the email address of the person who has tried to contact me, I am able to either, go through my personal email address, via Bigpond or via my Yahoo email address.

So come in and test the waters, and leave me a message :) I would love to see what you have to say.:)

Along with the Guest book, I have also added the best part to my website, and that is the added bonus of a Photo Gallery, I am working on a forms page so that you can upload the file to my web site. :) This is taking longer than I thought it would, but that is okay you can still email the photos to me and I will place them in the album manually. :)

So as you can see there is a lot for you here now :) and there will be more added over time as I learn the in's and out's of running my own fully functioning web site. :) You will find on the left all the links to the areas of my web site, these links are on nearly all of the pages; this will help with getting around my web site.

As I add new things to the web site, I will let you know, that is, if you are on the mailing list :) so for now enjoy :) I look forward to 2008 and what it will bring for us all :)

This months BOM I am still working on ideas but it will be something along the lines of a Memory Block. At this time I am working on a special project which is all embroidery work for the nursing home that Mum in when she passed away.

So have fun Thank you for popping in for a visit :)
I will chat again soon, :) Hugs, Dawsie :)
